In Record Time:
Clean Water for Ryabatenga Primary School
Real change is happening in Ryabatenga, and it started with your kindness and the gift of clean water for children.
Home to 1073 students (505 males, 568 females), the Ryabatenga Primary School is nestled in the heart of Kanywambogo. As a student there, Timothy has seen the difference a new tap stand and clean, safe latrines are making for him and his friends.
Before the project began, students would trek for up to 30 minutes to collect water from a shared tap stand in the village. There were long lines that would often force them to find other unprotected water sources, which kept them from being in class.
“We had been walking long distances to collect water which had been affecting me. I had to miss classes or go late, and teachers held us outside until the lesson was over. Our performance was affected. Sometimes we could find ourselves without drinking water because it was dirty, and then we had headaches most of the time because of thirst.”
Having only one toilet for every 100 students was another reason Timothy’s time in class was cut short: “We only had one latrine before, and you could find us lining up to enter it. The congestion was too much, and it was as if it was one latrine for a whole village.”
Thanks to your generosity in building a new tap stand and clean latrines, school is much more accessible for Timothy and his friends. They’ve been able to put down their jerry cans and pick up books, getting back to their desks in record time!
“I want to thank ACTS for the good things it has brought to our school. You have brought clean, safe water, and built clean latrines. Now, the tap is in the compound! It only takes 5 minutes for me to get water to drink! We have enough latrines, smart and clean. It only takes me 2 minutes to visit the latrine and go back to class. Thank you!”
The investment you have made in giving clean water and hygiene training to people in Uganda is having an incredibly positive impact. We couldn’t be more thankful.
