Tenacity. Dedication. Persistence.
by Jocelyn Kwok
I had the chance to visit Uganda in May, and I saw first-hand why we were recently ranked among the top-performing water charities in the country.
Nothing can describe the joy I felt visiting the communities our team works in and hearing directly from local families just how access to clean water and education has changed their lives and communities.
The ability to physically bring water to this extreme rural geography is already a feat. Now imagine doing this while working to entirely transform generational beliefs about health. Our local team has to go household by household to work with thousands of people to make this happen. The tenacity, dedication, and persistence are unreal. And best of all: it works. More lives than ever were transformed this year.
In Canada, our governance is focused on two core things: fulfilling our strategic plan while ensuring financial and governmental diligence. But it’s hard. Record inflation and declined giving have made it harder than ever, and it looks like we will have to scale back this year.
This is why I am sending you this email today.
Just down the road from Charity, whose village will soon have clean water thanks to so many who gave on Giving Tuesday, is Crispus. A young boy who has big dreams.
We don’t want to cut back. Not when the Ugandan authorities, other charities, and local communities are recognizing our work as outstanding, but earlier this month, we did the unthinkable and reduced this project’s scope and may have to do it some more.
Please give today. Everything will be matched. I’ve seen it first-hand, and I promise it will make a difference.
PS. There are only 4 days until 2022 meets its end. When you give a gift by the 31st, it will be matched by the True Directions Foundation, and you’ll help launch Crispus and his friends into a New Year filled with hope and health! acts.ca/donate
