Opportunites for Christian Service

ACTS is currently seeking to fill the following positions.

Engineer, ACTS Rural Water Supply Program, Mbarara District
This would be a two- or three-year posting to provide technical input and project management as well as system design in the context of gravity-flow and other types of water projects. Candidates with no previous GFS experience but able to problem-solve well and acquire appropriate skills are welcome to apply. Ability to work well in a team setting and facilitate the work of others is important.

Slow Sand Filter Instructor, Clearwater Communities Project
This would be a two- or three-year posting training and supervising Ugandan staff and volunteers in SSF technology, then supervising their activities as promoters of SSF in three rural Ugandan communities. A secondary goal will be the establishment of a small business enterprise, assisting a group of women in production and marketing of low-cost SSF household units.

Agroforestry Extension Worker/Trainer, Lake Bunyonyi Development Company
This would be a two- or three-year posting, reporting to the LBDC Director. Tasks would include researching appropriate extension methods and supervising the work of LBDC agroforestry program staff in the work of distributing seedlings to local farmers and promoting good agroforestry techniques.

Supervisor/Management Trainer, Lake Bunyonyi Development Company
This position would involve overseeing and training the managers of a well-developed eco-tourism project on Bushara Island, Lake Bunyonyi. ACTS has been involved with this project for over eight years and there is a solid core of trained local individuals who currently manage the tourist facility and the community development activities it supports on an ongoing basis. ACTS is gradually diminishing its involvement in the hope that the project will eventually be self-sustaining and managed completely by lake residents. Anyone volunteering for this position should consider a two- to three-year commitment. (This is a good posting for a married couple).

Swimming Instructors on Lake Bunyonyi, in southwestern Uganda
This would be a one- or two-year posting with the volunteer based out of Bushara Island Camps, an ACTS-partnered eco-tourism project on Lake Bunyonyi. Tasks would include swimming instruction to both children and adults in the Lake region who currently possess no water survival skills, despite their daily use of dugout canoes for transportation. (Each year there are deaths by drowning on the lake, some of which could have been easily preventable). In addition, some training of schoolteachers as local instructors will be required.

For all the postings listed above ACTS is seeking committed Christians who will be able to gather prayer and financial support from churches and individuals. ACTS overseas personnel should be prepared for the challenges of cross-cultural life and work, possess excellent communication skills, and have a genuine attitude of service to God and love for people.

If you are interested in any of these postings, please contact our Director, David Moore at the addresses above.
